Cancer Care

More than one in three people will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime. An ageing population, earlier detection and more effective treatment means that the number of people living with cancer is steadily increasing, with over 2 million people now living with or beyond cancer in the UK.

Care integration can improve quality of care and outcomes through prevention, screening, early diagnosis, treatment and long-term care for cancer survivors. Entries for this category can be from individuals or teams responsible for planning or delivering integrated care pathways for this group of patients. Entries will be judged against the general criteria. Submissions could include one or more of the following elements:

  • Strategies for effective cancer prevention and screening
  • Timely referral to specialist services
  • Supportive care to help patients and their families cope with the emotional and practical effects of living with cancer
  • Responsive and sensitive palliative and end-of-life care, provided in a setting of the patient's choice
  • Coherent services for cancer survivors that address its long-term effects
