Mental Health

One in four adults experience mental illness at some period in their life. People with mental health problems are a particularly vulnerable group within society, often disadvantaged within employment, education and facing discrimination and negative attitudes.

Care integration can impact on quality of care and improve outcomes at every stage of the patient pathway through treatment and effective long-term care for those with mental health illness. Entries for this category can be from individuals or teams responsible for planning or delivering integrated care pathways for this group of patients. Entries will be judged against the general criteria.

Submissions could include one or more of the following elements:

  • Timely referral to specialist services
  • Service delivery that addresses the discrimination and disadvantage this group face
  • Encouraging understanding and good management of mental health outside of specialist settings
  • Recognition of the importance of physical health in this group 
  • Supportive care to help patients and their families cope with long-term mental illness
